Delete your WhaleWatch account
You can permanently delete your WhaleWatch account and the data we hold for you at any time. This page explains the two ways to do it, what gets deleted, and what we have to keep for legal or financial-record reasons.
Option 1 — Delete in-app (fastest)
- Sign in to WhaleWatch on the web at whalewatchapp.com/auth/login or in the iOS / Android app.
- Open Settings (left sidebar on web · Profile tab on mobile).
- Scroll to the Danger Zone card at the bottom.
- Type your account email into the confirmation field, then click Delete Account.
- Your account and all associated data are removed immediately. You will be signed out and redirected to the home page.
This is the recommended path — it's instant and doesn't require any back-and-forth with our team.
Option 2 — Email request
If you can no longer sign in to your account, send an email to [email protected] from the email address registered to your WhaleWatch account.
Include in the email:
- Subject line: Account deletion request
- The email address on the account you want deleted
- (Optional) A brief reason — helpful for us, not required
We process email-based deletion requests within 7 calendar days. You'll receive a confirmation email when the deletion is complete.
Don't want to delete the whole account?
You can delete specific categories of data without closing your account. Useful if you just want to wipe your watchlist or unlink a brokerage but keep using WhaleWatch.
- Watchlist tickers — open Watchlist and tap the × on any pinned ticker, or remove all at once from the watchlist menu.
- Alerts — open Alerts and disable or delete any rule individually.
- Custom dashboards — open My Dashboard and remove widgets, or delete an entire saved layout.
- Paper-trading portfolio — Settings → Paper Trading → Reset portfolio wipes positions and trade history.
- Comments & reactions — your own comments and emoji reactions can be deleted by tapping each one.
- Linked brokerage / Plaid accounts — Settings → Linked Accounts → Disconnect revokes the link and purges associated holdings on our side.
- Push-notification token — Settings → Notifications → toggle push off; the token is removed from our database.
- Anything else — email [email protected] with the specific data category you want removed (e.g. "delete all my saved screeners") and we'll process it within 7 days.
What is deleted when you close your account
When you delete your account, we permanently remove:
- Your profile (email, name, avatar, password hash)
- Your watchlist and any pinned tickers / entities
- Your alert rules (price alerts, insider-trade triggers, etc.)
- Your custom dashboard layouts
- Your saved screeners and backtest configurations
- Your paper-trading portfolio and trade history
- Any social reactions, comments, or follows you've created
- Linked Plaid / brokerage connections (revoked at the provider via their API)
- Push-notification tokens (your device stops receiving WhaleWatch alerts)
- Any active referral codes you've generated
What is retained, and for how long
We are required by tax, accounting, and anti-fraud rules to retain a small amount of data even after account deletion. None of it is personally identifying once your profile is removed.
- Billing & subscription records — invoices, payment history, refund records, and tax documentation. Retained for up to 7 years per IRS / CRA / HMRC accounting requirements. Stored at our payment processor (Stripe), never on WhaleWatch servers.
- Anonymized usage analytics — aggregated counters (e.g. "10,000 users viewed this ticker") that no longer reference your identity. Retained indefinitely; cannot be re-associated with you.
- Server logs — IP addresses and request timestamps used for abuse / fraud prevention. Retained for 90 days, then permanently purged.
- Backups — encrypted database backups may contain your data for a short period after deletion. Backups roll over on a 30-day window; your data is fully gone within 30 days of deletion.
Data shared with third parties
We do not sell or share your personal data. Service providers we use to run WhaleWatch — and what they hold — are:
- Supabase (auth, database) — receives your account record. Deleted with your account.
- Stripe (payments) — receives billing data only. Retains as described above per US/EU regulations.
- Resend (transactional email) — receives your email address to deliver alerts. Removed from active sending lists at deletion; logs purged at 30 days.
- Cloudflare (web hosting / DNS) — receives request metadata. No persistent user records.
- Plaid (brokerage linking, opt-in only) — connections are revoked at deletion via Plaid's removal API.
- RevenueCat (mobile in-app purchase, opt-in only) — subscription records purged at deletion.
